Managerial departure at City of Liverpool

City of Liverpool have confirmed that manager Paul McNally has vacated his role at the club.

McNally took charge of the Purps in September 2022 from Skelmersdale United following the departure of Michael Ellison.

During his time at the club, he steered them to their highest-ever finish of fifth, and subsequently reached the NPL West Division play-off final, where they were defeated 2-0 by Prescot Cables.

Despite these successes, City of Liverpool have experienced a difficult start to life this season, picking up 11 points from 13 fixtures.

Such form sees them sit second-bottom in the table, with McNally's final game ending in a 1-0 defeat at home to Newcastle Town.

In a statement confirming McNally's departure, City of Liverpool said: "Regretfully, we announce that the club has today parted company with manager Paul McNally, following discussions after last night's game [Newcastle Town defeat] and this morning.

"The decision reflects the brilliant second half to last season and the Senior Cup and play-off final appearances, but also the poor start to the league campaign with zero home wins after eight matches and no wins in the last six.

"We wish Paul, his staff and his family all the best for the future. Details of our manager recruitment will follow.”
