Rugby Town part ways with manager
Rugby Town have confirmed that manager Carl Adams has left the club on mutual terms.
Adams joined the club as manager in 2018, and took charge of 257 games and ended his tenure with 138 wins.
He steered the Valley back to Step 4 at the end of the 2022/23 season, after consecutive third-place finishes in the United Counties League.
However, Rugby Town have endured a difficult start to their 2024/25 so far, winning just three of their 20 fixtures, leaving them in 20th place and five points adrift of the safety zone.
After their most recent 4-0 defeat away at Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday, the club announced that they would part company with their long-term manager.
In a statement, Rugby Town director Neil Melvin said: "Carl has been with us since 2018, and we have enjoyed some good moments under his leadership during that time, including our promotion back to Step Four in 2023.
"However, we made plans in the summer to make a significant improvement on last season's performance, and that has not materialised.
"To last over six years in any level of football is a testament to Carl's dedication, but all parties feel the time is right to move on.
“We are a club that believes strongly in loyalty and continuity and we have given the situation every chance to succeed, but now we are making preparations to work with a new manager to help the Club move forward.”
In his stead, centre-back Liam Francis will take up the reins as interim player/coach until a new manager is appointed.
The club have announced that they are in the process of recruiting a new first-team manager. Interested parties are invited to send their applications to [email protected].
