FA Cup derby success would 'mean everything', says Bootle boss

Bootle manager Mick McGraa says victory over fierce local rivals City of Liverpool in the FA Cup would be a huge boost to everyone around the club.

Last season the Bucks were beaten home and away by Saturday's opponents, although both reached the NPL West Division play-offs.

The pair would go on to lose to play-off winners Prescot Cables - Bootle going down in the semi-finals before City of Liverpool missed out on promotion to Step 3 at the final hurdle.

Bootle are one of three teams in the division to have won their opening two league fixtures but McGraa, who took charge little under 12 months ago, believes those results count for little when it comes to cup matters.

"The lads are buzzing," he told Bucks TV ahead of Saturday's derby day clash.

"We’ve got a good bunch of lads and I think we need to have a good run in the FA Cup. We’ve got to be on it on Saturday, as we know what threats they pose.

"I think form goes out the window on derby day and they’ll be up for it just like we will, so it’ll be a classic hopefully."

When asked about the importance of victory against their near neighbours on Saturday, McGraa added: "It’ll mean everything. I don’t think we need to worry about last season because we’ve got our new group, so I just think it’ll be good to get the monkey off our back a little bit.

"We owe it to the fans and everyone else at Bootle to try and get the win."
