Basford grant Carruthers compassionate leave
Basford United have announced that manager Martin Carruthers has been granted a period of indefinite compassionate leave following a family bereavement.
The club confirmed the news ahead of Saturday's 2-0 victory at Blyth Spartans in the Northern Premier League.
Carruthers is currently in his second spell in charge of the Lions, having returned to the club back in March, just days after he parted ways with fellow NPL side Matlock Town.
During his first stint at the helm, Carruthers led the club to a 100-point and 100-goal season in 2017/18 as they were promoted to the Northern Premier League.
The club have confirmed that Luke Potter - assistant to former boss Steve Kittrick - has returned as head coach with immediate effect, joining player-coach Saul Deeney as part of Carruthers' backroom team.
A Basford United statement read: "The club will support Martin over this period and have told him to take as long as it takes to come back 100%.
"Our thoughts are with Martin and his family at this sad time."
