Stalybridge swoop for Guiseley captain
Stalybridge Celtic have announced the signing of Liam Tongue from Guiseley.
Tongue, 26, joined the Lions from Hyde United prior to the start of the 2023/24 season and went on to make 20 appearances in all competitions.
During his time at the club, he was made captain and took charge of the club on an interim basis on two occasions.
The midfielder now returns to Tameside for his second spell after initially departing in 2019, where he featured 49 times over two years.
On his return to the club, Tongue said: "I’m happy to be back. It’s amazing to see how the Club has changed making positive steps forward since last time I was here.
"For me, I’ve always said play where you feel wanted. It was tough for me last year due to commitments as manager and due to injury, I didn’t really play as much as I wanted to.
"In football this happens but for me I can now look forward to the new season and hopefully contributing towards a successful campaign.
"The Club has completely changed for the better and I think everyone can see that, it’s heading in the right direction and it’s something I wanted to be a part of again.
"I know the Gaffer very well and we’ve had a lot of positive chats which has massively helped me come to this decision.
"I can’t wait to see you all again and have a good catch-up."
Celtic manager James Kinsey added: "Liam is a fantastic coup for us.
"I work with him on a daily basis and have got to really know him as a lad.
"There aren’t many better around and I have no doubt he will bring great standards to our group.
"He scores goals and is proven at a higher level. We’re really excited to see him push on here."
