Bridlington Town appoint new chief executive

Bridlington Town have announced that club secretary Gavin Branton has been appointed as the club's new chief executive.

Branton has been involved with The Seasiders Brid for over 20 years across various roles in the club.

In 2010, he took over as the club secretary and has diligently performed the role for 14 years, before deciding to take up a new challenge as the CEO.

The club was purchased by green energy company HDM Worldwide in July, taking over from long-time owner Pete Smurthwaite.

On his appointment, Branton said: “I am Bridlington born and am proud and honoured to be given this vital new role in the structure of the club.

With [Pete Smurthwaite] having sold the club, all the tasks he previously did are now needing to be addressed.

"This new role covers all those plus my present Secretary role and other areas which need someone to manage and move the club forward.

"My role will be to support Denny [Ingram] in any way possible in order to give him the best possible chance of achieving the club's targets and ambition on the pitch.

"Off the pitch, my task will be to ensure the smooth running of the club operationally day to day. Ensuring commercial and budgetary compliance decisions are made.

"This frees up more time for the owners to meet our strategic aspirations and goals - meeting our KPIs. The task is to ensure effective and efficient communication and support for our owners on all matters at the club - both on and off the field.

"A wider remit is to engage with the local community and the many organisations and agencies in the Town in order to cement existing relationships and grow new ones.

"We are a community club and the owners recognise this and want to build on our existing partnerships.

"I have retired from a 15-year career in offender education management to take up this vital role. I bring with me valuable managerial experience and transferable skills which complement the role.

"Most importantly, I have a thorough working knowledge of Bridlington Town AFC and how it operates and what our supporters expect from those who represent the club in a professional capacity.

"The key will be to ensure our unrivalled group of volunteers and staff are supported and empowered to enable us all to move the club forward in order to meet the ambition of the owners.

"We have an amazing group of people at the club - fans, volunteers and staff. We are the Bridlington Town family.

"I am very much looking forward to my continued relationship with all of the above and the hard work necessary to meet our shared goals.

"A football club is nothing without its fans."
