NPL preview | Saturday 9 November

NPL preview | Saturday 9 November

For the first time since September, all sides are in action, ahead of what promises to be an entertaining round of fixtures in the Northern Premier League’s top division.

Unbeaten league leaders Macclesfield will be searching for a 10th straight league win this weekend when they welcome in-form Morpeth Town to the Leasing.com Stadium.

The Highwaymen have won four succesive league matches in the league, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Their midweek win over Mickleover saw them climb up to sixth, a point off the play-offs.

They’ll have eyes on the top five, as well as having the opportunity to inflict a first league defeat on their opponents this weekend.

Despite a run of three straight league defeats, Worksop Town enter the weekend in second.

Next up, the Tigers travel to the Project Solar Stadium to take on Hyde United.

Hyde also haven’t tasted victory in their last three, but have a couple of draws to their name from that time. Both sides will be eager to get three points on the board this Saturday.

Stockton Town will be looking to make it six league wins in a row this weekend when they host Ashton United.

Steve Cunningham’s Robins will be hoping to pick up their first league win in six, which would leave them within two points of their opponents in the league table.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed Hebburn Town welcome Prescot Cables to Hebburn Sports Ground.

Hebburn have also suffered a slight dip in form, winning just one of their last five league games. They’ll be looking to get back on track against a Cables side who fell to defeat at Whitby Town a week ago.

The final side occupying a play-off place, Ilkeston Town, visit Lancaster City.

Ian Deakin’s side will be hoping to pull clear of the chasing play-off pack, and a win this weekend would open up an eight-point gap over their opponents, who enter the weekend with the second-fewest league defeats of any side in the division with three.

Towards the foot of the table, Michael Connor takes charge of his first game as Blyth Spartans manager as they travel to Warrington Rylands.

Rylands are starting to find form after a slow start to the campaign. They’ll be looking to inflict further damage on Blyth whilst building on their 3-0 win last time out over Basford United.

Leek Town will be aiming to win only their second home game in the league this season, and in turn open up an eight-point gap over FC United of Manchester when the sides meet at Harrison Park.

In the weekend's other games, Guiseley are in league action for the first time in three weeks as they travel to a Mickleover side looking to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat to Morpeth in midweek.

Another side with games in hand due to FA Cup progression, Gainsborough Trinity, welcome Workington to the Northolme.

A win for the Holy Blues would see them move within a point of their opponents, whilst still having three games in hand.

Matlock Town will be looking to build on positive performances against Stockton Town and Macclesfield in their last two games, losing both by a singular goal.

The Gladiators host Bamber Bridge, who will be looking to bounce back after a home defeat to Morpeth last weekend.

Finally, Basford United will have eyes on climbing into the league’s top half when they host Whitby Town.

All games are set to kick off at 3pm, unless otherwise stated.
