NPL preview | August Bank Holiday
Teams in the Northern Premier League are all set for this season's August Bank Holiday double-header, where they will play twice in the space of 72 hours.
Newly-promoted Hebburn Town come into the weekend as the only side to have won all four of their fixtures so far.
They will look to extend that record this weekend, firstly at home to a Basford United side that have picked up just three points in the league so far. They will follow that up with a Bank Holiday Monday trip to Workington, who have collected five points from their last three matches after a losing start on the opening weekend.
Hyde United and Macclesfield are Hebburn's two closest rivals, having accumulated 10 points each so far.
Hyde host fellow high-flyers Stockton Town and Macclesfield visit Whitby Town on Saturday, before second and third lock horns at the Project Solar Stadium on Monday, in what is expected to be one of the games of the weekend.
Saturday's trip to second-placed Hyde is the first of two difficult assignments this weekend for Stockton, as the Anchors will host Whitby - who have lost just one of their opening four league games - on Monday.
There are plenty of other eagerly-anticipated fixtures to look out for on Saturday, including the eagerly-anticipated meeting between Greater Manchester rivals Ashton United and FC United of Manchester.
Ashton were kept scoreless for the first time this season at home to Bamber Bridge in midweek, but they remain in the top five heading into the bank holiday. FC United, meanwhile, are winless in three and will seek a return to winning ways against one of their neighbouring clubs.
Further down the division, bottom-of-the-table Matlock Town are eyeing an improved performance and result after they were thrashed 8-0 by Worksop Town in midweek.
The Gladiators have picked up just one point all season but come up against Blyth Spartans on Monday - Nobby Solano's side being one of just four teams, alongside Matlock, yet to taste their first league win of the campaign.
Third-bottom Warrington Rylands will look to get their season up and running with games against the sides either side of them in the division heading into the bank holiday weekend - firstly away at 19th-placed Morpeth Town on Saturday before returning home on Monday to face Prescot Cables, who have endured a difficult start on their Northern Premier League return.
All fixtures over the weekend will take place at 3pm, unless stated otherwise.
