NPL round-up | Tuesday 10 September

Macclesfield maintained their one-point lead at the top of the Northern Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Ashton United on Tuesday night.

It marked a third successive win and clean sheet for Robbie Savage's side, who continued their unbeaten start to the new season thanks to D'Mani Mellor's goal shortly after the hour mark.
Defeat was Ashton's second in a row, their unbeaten start to the season coming to an abrupt end with back-to-back 1-0 defeats.
Worksop Town kept pace at the top pf the division as goals from Aleksandrs Starcenko and Vaughan Redford saw them past Ilkeston Town.
The Tigers have now won their last six matches in all competitions, scoring 24 goals and conceding just four.
Hebburn Town remain well-placed in third, despite being held to a goalless draw away at Morpeth Town.
Still, the Hornets have lost just once all season and are just three points adrift of the league leaders.
Elsewhere in the top five, Guiseley climbed over Hyde United and into fourth, thanks to a late 2-1 win at Whitby Town.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the final quarter, Joe Ackroyd came off the bench to score the leveller 17 minutes from time, then Ollie Brown netted his first senior goal for the club in the 92nd minute, turning the ball home at the back post.
Hyde produced a much-improved performance following Saturday's heavy defeat at Guiseley but were forced to settle for a goalless draw at home to Leek Town.
Seventh-placed Lancaster City preserved their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a 2-1 home win over Stockton Town.
Goals from Dom Lawson and Nic Evangelinos were enough for the Dolly Blues, who have now won two in a row after a run of five successive league draws before then.
In the night's other fixtures, Mickleover left it late to pick up a 2-0 win at Basford United.
An own-goal from Basford's James Revarnelle broke the deadlock, before Leo-Jo Davidson wrapped up the win in the 89th.
The highest-scoring game of the night came at the SFC Stadium, where Bamber Bridge overcame Prescot Cables 4-2.
The game included a remarkable nine-minute spell midway through the second half when both teams scored twice, but the result was put to bed in the ninth minute of stoppage time by Brig substitute Billy Hasler-Cregg.
Managerless Matlock Town's woes continued as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Gainsborough Trinity.
The Gladiators, who hope to have a new permanent manager before the weekend, remain rooted to the foot of the table after goals from Fraser Preston and Declan Howe saw the visitors collect their third win in five matches.
Blyth Spartans remain second-bottom, but they did pick up their first league win of the season at home to Workington.
Billy Gordon's second-half strike was all that separated the two sides at Croft Park.
The other game of the evening came at Warrington Rylands, who were held to a 1-1 draw by FC United of Manchester.
Substitute Declan Mcloughlin equalised for FC United in the 93rd minute, but the point was not enough to prevent manager Neil Reynolds from being dismissed by the club after almost six years in charge.
