Young defender returns to Gainsborough

Gainsborough Trinity have announced that 19-year-old versatile defender Cody Collins has signed on for the 24/25 season, nearly two years after he first appeared for the Holy Blues on loan.

Collins joined Trinity as a 17-year-old in 2022 on loan from Mansfield Town, playing seven times.

Injury halted his loan move and he was let go by Mansfield in the summer of 2023.

Last season, Collins played his first minutes since injury for Tadcaster Albion in the NECL Premier Division, making 25 appearances.

“Last season, it was just about getting back and playing after ten months out,” he said.

Upon departing the Brewers in March, he returned briefly to Gainsborough and featured as a sub in their final day 3-2 win over NPL Champions Radcliffe.

Trinity manager Russ Wilcox was pleased to confirm Collins’ arrival, saying: “I see good development in him, he’s only young still and he can push on with us.”

Collins added: “I’ve had conversations with Russ over the Summer and I’ve never thought of going anywhere else - there was only one choice to make!”
