Tuesday's First Division South review

Alvechurch need only a point from their remaining two games, or Frickley Athletic to drop a point, to secure the second automatic promotion spot from the EVO-STIK League South in their first season back at this level, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Church pushed Market Drayton Town closer to the drop with a 3-0 win at the Greenfields Sports Ground on Tuesday night to move six points clear of the Blues with six points to play for – Frickley possessing a better goal difference.

Yusufu Ceesay gave Alvechurch the lead after 42 minutes and then right on the half-time whistle, Nathaniel Waite added a second, with Tom Turton`s penalty just past the hour-mark making sure of the points.

Frickley also did their bit by beating Peterborough Sports 4-2 at Westfield Lane, although only leading from Jacob Hazel`s early second minute goal at the break – his 46th of an amazing season.

Reece McGinley doubled the Blues` lead on the hour-mark, only for Avelino Viera and then Josh McCammon to pull the visitors` level in the 69th and 75th minutes respectively. But a Tom Dugdale brace in the final seven minutes sealed Frickley's win.

Chasetown`s hopes of a home play-off semi-final were boosted by a 3-1 win at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Will Whieldon after 22 minutes and George Cater 10 minutes later gave the Scholars a cushion that Scott Ruthven reduced on the hour-mark, only for Chris Baker to restore Chasetown`s two-goal advantage eight minutes later.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Sheffield FC found some form at the Coach & Horses, running out 5-1 winners against Spalding United with Waide Fairhurst topping and tailing the scoring, sandwiched by Andy Gascoigne, Adam Yates and Adam Chapman – Gavin King replying.

Lincoln United are just going to miss out on the top six but won their penultimate game 3-1 at Cleethorpes Town, thanks to a Paul Grimes brace after Scott Matthews` 38th minute opener – Curtis Bateman replied.
