‘The win’s everything’ - Long Eaton end Quorn’s remarkable unbeaten run
There are no longer any invincible seasons on the cards across the Northern Premier League divisions, after NPL Midlands Division leaders Quorn fell to their first defeat of the season at home to Long Eaton United on Saturday.
The Reds had gone a staggering 24 games without losing to start the 2024/25 season - a run which saw them win 14 matches in a row from August through to November.
However, two second-half goals from Liam Loughlan, following Gianluca Bucci’s opener, secured a 3-2 victory for fourth-placed Long Eaton United at the Sotto Stadium.
The win also helps put a seven-point buffer between Long Eaton and Anstey Nomads in sixth, although the chasing play-off pack do have up to four games in hand on the Blues.
Following their huge win, Long Eaton boss Brad Munn stressed the importance of returning to winning ways in style, following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Hinckley on New Year’s Day.
“The win’s everything,” Munn said.
“But the celebration afterwards isn’t because we’ve taken their unbeaten record. It’s because it was vital we got all three points after dropping them on New Year’s Day.
“One of the hardest things to do is to knock someone off of a long unbeaten run, so it’s a good achievement. We’ve beaten a top, top side.
“The main thing is the points on the board with a good performance. I’m proud of the boys.”
