Talented goalkeeper joins Matlock Town on loan
Matlock Town have announced the signing of goalkeeper Cam Mason from Chester on an initial three-month loan.
Mason joined Curzon Ashton in 2014 after completing his scholarship at Chesterfield, and was with the Nash for seven years, making more than 150 appearances for the club.
The shot-stopper went on to join Southport in the summer of 2021, before moving to Guiseley for an undisclosed fee in January 2023.
Last season he returned to Curzon, playing 35 times for the club as they reached the National League North play-offs for the first time.
He joined Chester in the summer and make five appearance for the Blues.
However, an injury suffered in August ruled Mason out for two months, and he only made his return in the Cheshire Senior Cup on October 21.
He joins a Matlock side currently 19th in the Northern Premier League, with 17 points from their opening 18 matches.
It has also been confirmed that the National League North side will have a recall option in their favour for the duration of the loan.
On the decision to let Mason leave, Chester manager Calum McIntyre said: “This is an opportunity for Cam to go out and play games.
"He has too much ability to be sat on the bench or even in the stand on a matchday, and this is about enabling him to play games.
"Cam had asked for the opportunity to get some minutes, and now we are able to do that, the right opportunity has arisen.
"Since his injury, his attitude and application has been first class, and I’m pleased for him that we can now get him some regular match minutes with this loan.”
