Striker Hugo Rodriguez joins Rams
Ramsbottom United have signed striker Hugo Rodriguez from Kendal Town.
Rodriguez, 33, was originally approached by the Rams in November 2020, but the Kendal club captain decided to stay put as the 2020/21 season came to its early conclusion.
The prolific front man was in high demand from a number of clubs, including some closer to Kendal, but put pen to paper for the Rams on Tuesday evening, flanked by chairman Harry Williams and manager Lee Donafee.
“He is a player we know well as we have previously tried to sign him in the past,” Donafee said.
“But it is no secret that we needed forwards and, when meeting him this week, we were able to agree his registration and it left us buzzing.
“A top honest lad, Hugo will bring more than just goals to the group. His attitude and work rate is hard to be matched and he will give his all for the club.
“This is a massive signing for Rammy.”
On the move, Rodriguez said: “Rammy tried to sign me last year but it didn’t feel the right time for me as I’ve only just started playing for Kendal and I was given the captaincy so wanted to play at full season before I considered any other options.
“However, due to Covid, things didn’t plan out the way I wanted.
“This year I got myself really fit during pre-season and after a first good game I got a damaged tendon so I’ve been out since unfortunately.
“A few clubs have approach me but Rammy was always the option for me since I spoke to the gaffer Diego and Warren, who have been a key part on me signing for the club.
“I have always heard really good things about the club and I looking forward to the new challenge.
“I hope I can help the team achieve things this year. I can’t wait to get going.”
