Stockton add former Newcastle youngster to ranks

Northern Premier League newcomers Stockton Town have confirmed the signing of Owen Gallacher following his release from National League North side Spennymoor Town.

The 25-year-old full-back, who can operate on the wing, made a combined 40 appearances for Newcastle’s U18 and U23 before making his senior debut in the FA Trophy for Harrogate Town.

Since leaving Newcastle for Nottingham Forest, he has enjoyed brief spells in the EFL with Burton Albion, Crawley Town and Grimsby Town, making 15 appearances across League One and Two.

Last season, a collarbone injury restricted him to just nine appearances for Spennymoor as they finished ninth in the division, a point outside the play-off places.

Discussing his arrival, Gallacher said: “The club has amazing support and I followed them through last season’s promotion after my close mate Nathan [Harker] signed.

“I’m very determined and I can’t wait to get started.”

Manager Micheal Dunwell said: “I am really pleased to finally sign Owen. The high level he has been playing at throughout his career will add that experience to our squad, and I look forward to working with him.”

The Anchors’ pre-season got underway on Saturday with a 2-0 away win at Consett, with new signing Gallacher named on the bench.
