Spartans scribe to stand down

Veteran press officer Phil Castiaux is calling it a day at EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Blyth Spartans.

Spartans announced that their long-serving media manager at Croft Park, pictured, was stepping down at the end of the season before their 3-0 win over Mickleover Sports in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight on Saturday.

A club supporter for nearly 60 years, the scribe has dedicated more than half of that time volunteering at the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club and is currently the longest-serving official having overseen a huge expansion of the club's media output.

In 2014, his achievements were recognised when the club's media department won the EVO-STIK NPL's inaugural PR Club of the Year accolade.

Castiaux, who has been featuring as a co-commentator on Radio Blyth Live this season, said: "There comes a time when you feel you have gone as far as you can. I will continue to help coordinate the highly committed and very able media lads until the end of the current season."

A club spokesman said: "Blyth Spartans would like to thank Phil for all of his hard work and dedication during his time at the club and would like to wish him well for the future."
