South Shields add to backroom team
South Shields have confirmed the appointment of Tommy Miller as Assistant Coach ahead of the new season.
He joins his former Sunderland teammate Julio Arca at the club. Arca was confirmed as manager following the departure of Kevin Phillips.
The Mariners were promoted to the National League North, having finished top of the NPL Premier Division by eight points. They will be joined by second-placed Warrington Town, who beat Bamber Bridge in the play-off final.
Miller had a varied playing career, playing in the Premier League with Sunderland, and also had spells with Hartlepool United, Ipswich Town, Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town, Swindon Town, Bury, Halifax Town and Spennymoor Town.
For four years, Miller worked as an assistant at Spennymoor, and was then given the top job following the departure of Jason Ainsley. However, he only lasted seven months in the job- he was sacked with the club lying in 13th in the National League North.
Miller will now return to the dugout, and hope to help South Shields build on last seasons success.
