Silverware and cup winners on TV!!
EVO-STIK League Atherton Collieries and the Integro League Cup are getting ready for an outing on Sky Sports!
A year after showing off the silverware they won as North West Counties League champions to fans of Leigh Centurions, their neighbours have invited the 2018 Integro League Cup winners to return on Friday night for a lap of honour with their latest trophy when they host Salford Red Devils in the sixth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.
As guests of honour at the Leigh Sports Village for the 7.35pm kick-off, manager Michael Clegg and the EVO-STIK League North club's staff and players are looking forward to being being presented to the crowd at half-time and the scenes being captured by the cameras of Sky Sports Arena.
Colls, who beat Coaville Town 2-1 at Alfreton's Impact Arena last week to lift the Integro League Cup a year after winning promotion, can also expect to be seen by thousands more fans down under with Aussie TV also televising the tie between the Championship's Centurions and Super League club Salford.
Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont invited Colls along last year and chairman Mike Latham reckons they'll receive another rapturous welcome from fans inside the stadium after the success they've enjoying for the second season running.
Latham said: “It’s a great privilege to acknowledge sporting achievements throughout our local community. There’s no better example than Atherton Collieries, a club that has been going for over one hundred years and who have recently achieved their greatest feats.
“The Colls players, staff and officials are guests of honour of Leigh Centurions and at half-time will undertake a lap of honour with the cup around the ground. They will get a fantastic reception from the fans to acknowledge a great sporting achievement.
“Last year we were delighted to honour Michael Clegg and his Colls side to mark their achievement in winning the championship of the ultra competitive North West Counties League and promotion into the Northern Premier League. This season Colls have not only consolidated in the league but have also achieved the wonderful honour of lifting the League Cup, known as the Integro League Cup, ahead of the other 67 teams in the league."
He added: “I know Derek rates Michael Clegg highly and was delighted by the team’s success. It’s brilliant to hear that each and every member of the Colls squad have accepted our invitation and will be at LSV. Let’s raise the roof!”
