Shepshed welcome Basford United duo

Shepshed Dynamo have announced the signings of Zayn Hakeem and Charlie Wakefield from Basford United.

Hakeem, 24, rejoins the club after he departed for Basford United in the summer.

An Antigua and Barbados international, the striker was the Dynamos' leading goalscorer in the 2022/23 season with 19 goals.

He started his career at Nottingham Forest before joining League Two side Mansfield Town in 2016, making his professional debut in a 0-0 draw against Cambridge United.

Hakeem has also featured for Matlock Town, Grantham Town, Coalville Town, Bradford (Park Avenue) and Barwell.

Joining him at the Dovecote is midfielder Charlie Wakefield.

The 23-year-old also joins the club from Basford United, where he made 15 appearances, scoring in a 5-3 defeat away at Workington.

A former Chesterfield Academy player, he made five appearances for the Spirerites, including two in the EFL.

Before his move to the Lions in the summer, Wakefield enjoyed spells at Matlock Town, Buxton, Ilkeston Town and Belper Town.
