Sheffield defender joins Pontefract

Pontefract Collieries have announced the signing of Josh Burns from Sheffield.

The defender links back up with his brother Danny who joined the Colls in May this year, with the pair initially playing together during their time at Frickley Athletic in 2021.

After this, Burns returned to Sheffield and went on to make 53 appearances, scoring three goals.

On his decision to join Pontefract, Burns said: “What excites me about joining Ponte is that it's a big chance to be involved in a team that is flying at the minute and will 100% be fighting at the top end of the league.

“This is a good opportunity to be involved in a strong team, that will allow me to perform to the best of my ability.

“The conversations I had with Danny about the club were positive and helped me to make my decision.

“He mentioned that the Colls are a brilliant bunch of lads who work hard to bring the best out of each other and the league table at the minute really proves that statement.

“He said the standards in training and games are always high and I am excited to be a part of that.”

Burns will go into contention for Pontefract Collieries’ next game at home to Liversedge in the Northern Premier League.
