Roberts departs Witton Albion as Allen steps in

Witton Albion have announced that captain and goalkeeper Danny Roberts has left the club, with Alsager Town shot-stopper Ellis Allen coming in to replace him.

The 35-year-old re-joined Albion from Leek Town in February for his third spell with the club.

The veteran 'keeper became the club captain upon his return and kept 21 clean sheets in 72 appearances for the Cheshire-based outfit.

As he departs Wincham Park, Allen has come into the Witton squad, joining from Alsager.

Allen, 22, is a former Oldham Athletic academy player who has featured for Cypriot club APEA Akrotiri, 1874 Northwich, Glossop North End and Abbey Hey.

He joined NWCFL side Alsager in September, but will now return to Step 4 with Witton.

Allen will go into contention to make his debut in their next fixture at home to Hednesford Town in the NPL West Division on Tuesday evening.
