Raid won't stop the show going on

Market Drayton Town secretary Rod Pope is vowing to beat thieves and vandals who've raided the EVO-STIK League club's home.

Pope declared the "show would go on" on Thursday after securing the Greenfields Sports Ground, pictured, following an overnight break-in that saw thieves leave a trail of damage and ransack the bar.

As well as replacing two doors, officials are also expecting the bill for stolen or damaged wines and spirits to run into hundred of pounds. Fortunately, after hosting EVO-STIK League rivals Stafford Rangers in a lucrative friendly 24 hours earlier on Tuesday night, cash is never stored on the premises.

With the EVO-STIK League South club's reserves hosting Market Drayton Tigers in a friendly tonight (Thursday), Pope confirmed that the police are now hunting the raiders after advising him on reviewing the club's security.

Pope said: "The police have helped us review our security and the ground is secure. That is the main thing and the show will go on with our reserves at home on Thursday night.

"We never leave a penny at the ground and the till is always empty when we lock up so it could have been worse. The police say the thieves left behind one of their tools and other evidence so hopefully they'll be brought to justice before to long."
