Quartet of signings for Basford

Basford United have announced the signings of four players ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 season.

The first player to make the move to Greenwich Avenue is striker Tyrell Waite.

The 29-year-old forward came through the ranks at Ilkeston Town before joining the then-League One club Notts County in 2012.

He made nine appearances for the Magpies, scoring his first goal for the club in a 2-2 draw against Coventry City.

After spells at Lincoln City, Nuneaton Town, Kidderminster Harriers and Boston United, Waite joined Tamworth in 2018, where he went on to make 85 appearances, scoring 24 times.

More recently, he has plyed his trade at the likes of Coalville Town, Nuneaton Borough and Mickleover.

On the signing of Waite, Basford United manager Martin Carruthers said: "Tyrell Waite has been a much sought-after striker and it’s a fantastic signing for the club.

"A big powerhouse who can not only score goals but has a real work ethic and will help us link play higher up the pitch.

"A fantastic lad off the pitch and I’m sure the fans will be looking forward to seeing him in action.

I’m confident his goals will prove pivotal for us this season."

Also joining Carruthers' side for the new season is Kacy Milan Butterfield.

Butterfield, 26, is a Bermudan international who began his career at Walsall before joining Kidderminster Harriers in 2018, where he went on to make 46 appearances.

The 6'4" midfielder has also played for the likes of Chesterfield, Alfreton Town, Nuneaton Borough and most recently, Stourbridge.

In 2019, Butterfield made his international debut for Bermuda in a 2-2 draw against Cuba and has since earned five more caps for the Gombey Warriors.

On Butterfield's move to the club, Carruthers said: "The signing of Kacy is a real statement of intent from the club.

"Another much sought-after player and real midfield presence who can not only play but will add strength and power to our midfield.

"His pedigree and previous clubs speak for themselves and he's another player I can’t wait to start working with."

The club have also confirmed the signing of veteran striker Ashley Chambers.

The 34-year-old forward began his career at Leicester City, making his debut in 2015 at the age of 15 against Blackpool, making him the youngest player in the Foxes' history.

In 2011, he joined York City where he netted 19 goals in 95 appearances, before making the move to Cambridge United three years later.

Chambers has also enjoyed time at the likes of Dagenham & Redbridge, Nuneaton Town, Kidderminster Harriers and more recently, Brackley Town and Buxton.

In 2022, he joined Coalville Town where he made 67 appearances over two seasons, scoring 19 times.

Basford boss Carruthers was delighted to secure the signature of Chambers saying: "Well this is a real coup for the club and to get this deal over the line is a testament to all those behind the scenes to make this one happen.

"A signing of real quality and he comes with vast amount of experience and proven track record at this level and above.

"Ash will provide not only experience and goals but also possesses great leadership qualities and this will prove pivotal in this exciting upcoming season."

The final signing announced by Basford is Robbie McNicholas.

McNicholas is no stranger to working with the Ambers boss, after signing for Matlock Town last season under Carruthers' tenure.

A former Basford United Academy player, the defender has enjoyed time at Carlton, Loughborough Dynamo, Matlock Town and Belper Town.

On the signing, Carruthers stated: "It's great to see Robbie back in the Basford colours.

"Robbie was one of my success stories here graduating to the 1st team and from the Academy.

"A fantastic lad and Mr consistent for me last season at Matlock.

"Great to have you back Robbie, a perfect example for some great young players currently with a chance of progressing to this season's 24/25 squad."
