Purps announce double signing

City of Liverpool have announced the signing of former Prescot Cables captain Liam Hollett and experienced goalkeeper Ben Barnes.

Hollett recently left Cables after enjoying two spells with the club.

The centre-back, 31, has played for a number of clubs across the north-west, including Marine, Burscough, Cammell Laird and Skelmersdale United.

On Hollett’s arrival, Purps boss Paul McNally said: “Liam is a great addition to our club and will bring many positive attributes to help us move forward on the pitch.”

“He was captain at his previous club, so that tells you what type of a player we are bringing in.”

Also joining the Pesky Bulls is towering shot-stopper Barnes, who previously worked with McNally at fellow Pitching In NPL West Division side Skelmersdale.

The 35-year-old captained his former club to promotion to Step 4 via the play-offs at the end of last season.

He spent three years with Skem, and has also represented Marine and Prescot Cables.

Discussing his capture, McNally added: “Ben is a very experienced goalkeeper and once the opportunity came to work with him again, it was one we couldn’t turn down.”

In other news, the Purps have announced that James Edgar and Daniel McKenna have been released, allowing them to search for new opportunities.
