Promising defender Winfield welcomed at Worksop
Worksop Town have confirmed the signing of Charlie Winfield following his departure from League One side Barnsley.
The 22-year-old had been in the Barnsley youth setup since the age of 10 and made appearances for the Tykes’ U21 and U23 sides.
He made his first team debut for the club in a Carabao Cup tie against Tranmere Rovers in August 2023, providing an assist in an eventual penalty shootout loss.
The left-back had loan spells at Danish second division side Esbjerg fB, as well as Alfreton Town and Darlington in the National League North on UK shores.
During his time in Denmark, the defender featured 16 times before suffering an ACL injury which left him out of action for a year.
Winfield’s arrival will provide a defensive boost to an already solid backline, and will be available to step into Craig Parry’s side for their pre-season friendly against Buxton on Tuesday night.
