NPL round-up | Saturday 26 October

Despite only three games being played, excitement and plenty of goals were the order of the day in the Northern Premier League's top division on Saturday.

Prescot Cables were the only side to pick up maximum points this weekend, as they returned to winning ways at home to Ilkeston Town.

Goals from James Foley, Ben Elliott and Lewis Gilboy were enough for Ste Daley’s side to climb into the top 10 with a 3-1 win at Valerie Park.

Tom Cursons netted his 14th of the season four minutes from time, but that proved a mere consolation.

The Robins remain in the play-off places, however, after Hyde United were unable to hold onto their two-goal lead at the Giant Axe as Lancaster City fought back to rescue a point.

The Tigers had a commanding lead with 20 minutes to go, but two goals in five minutes for the hosts meant that the points were shared.

Lancaster have now drawn each of their last three league games, sharing the points in nine of their 15 games so far this season.

One of the division's early high-flyers, Hebburn Town, also had to battle from two down to avoid an upset against Leek Town.

Leek, who were looking for their second win at home this season, scored twice in two minutes in the first half to take a convincing lead into the break.

However, second half goals from Bailey Adamson and Olly Martin meant that Leek legend Tom Grice’s 500th and final game for the club ended in a draw.

A point means that Hebburn were unable to climb into the top two, while Leek moved above Workington into 15th.
