NPL round-up | Saturday 17 August

Stockton Town's dream start to life in the Northern Premier League's top division continued as they maintained their perfect start with a topsy-turvy 3-2 win at home to Prescot Cables.

The Anchors were two goals ahead and Prescot - also new to the division this season - scored either side of half-time to level things up, before Cameron Painter struck the decisive blow 17 minutes from time to complete a perfect opening week in the division for Michael Dunwell's side.

Two other teams - Macclesfield and Hebburn Town - also made it three wins from three to begin the season.

Danny Elliott scored for the second game in a row, with Luke Duffy and Tom Clare also on the scoresheet for Macclesfield as they ran out 3-1 winners at home to Guiseley.

Hebburn, meanwhile, were indebted to an Amar Purewal double as they secured maximum points away at Mickleover.

Elsewhere, Jack Redshaw struck a 22-minute hat-trick for Hyde United as they picked up an impressive 4-1 win at Matlock Town.

The Tigers have now won back-to-back games since a 1-1 draw at home to Mickleover on the opening day.

Ashton United round out the top five, Darius Osei's header in first-half stoppage time enough to see them past Gainsborough Trinity at the Kal Group Stadium.

In the day's other results, Whitby Town made it two wins from two on the road as Joe Gibson's cute, lofted finish in the 76th minute saw them past Warrington Rylands at the Hive Arena.

The Blues, who squandered a three-goal lead at home to Ashton in midweek, are one of only two sides in the division yet to pick up their first points of the season.

Ilkeston Town and Lancaster City maintained their unbeaten starts with 1-1 draws at FC United of Manchester and Blyth Spartans respectively.

Lancaster looked to be on course for all three points, but a late equaliser from Billy Gordon saw Blyth pick up their second point under new boss Nobby Solano.

As for Ilkeston, a late rescue act saw Tom Cursons equalise six minutes from time, the Robins having trailed to Declan Evans' goal early in the second half.

Basford United picked up their first points of the season in emphatic style, thrashing Morpeth Town 4-0 at Greenwich Avenue.

Kane Richards was on target twice for the Lions, who climb to 14th in the table.

At the SFC Stadium, there was no separating Bamber Bridge and Worksop Town as the pair played out a goalless draw.

The only other game of the day came in Cumbria, where Workington and Leek Town played out a 1-1 draw.

Last season's top scorer David Symington netted for the Reds shortly after the half-hour mark, cancelling out Oliver Harrison's opener on 19 minutes.

Leek have now picked up four points in three matches on their return to Step 3, while Workington's search for a first league win of the campaign continues.
