A third straight league win for Guiseley headlined this weekend’s action in the Northern Premier League as the Lions shot up into the top three.

A second-half brace from Will Longbottom was enough to secure a 2-0 win over fellow play-off hopefuls Hebburn Town.

Guiseley have now gone six league games without defeat and are only behind second-placed Worksop Town on goal difference.

Towards the bottom of the table, FC United of Manchester are still searching for their first league win at home this season after they were pegged back late on by Workington.

Stephen Rigg’s 89th minute equaliser meant the points were shared, after a topsy-turvy encounter at Broadhurst Park which saw both teams lead at points in the first half.

FC United weren’t the only side in the bottom four to pick up points this weekend.

At Croft Park, Michael Connor’s first home game in charge of Blyth Spartans ended in disappointment as his side were convincingly beaten 4-0 by Matlock Town.

Montel Gibson scored twice for the Gladiators, who came into the weekend occupying the final relegation spot, as they climbed up to 14th and continued their fine run under the recently-appointed Ryan Cresswell.

Mickleover also shipped four, losing heavily to Whitby Town at the Towbar Express Stadium.

The away side took the lead inside four minutes through Jake Bennett but found themselves 3-1 down at the break.

Frankie Whelan’s header 10 minutes from time confirmed a third win in five for the Seasiders, who sit 13th in the table.

Darius Osei’s 11th of the season was all that separated Ashton United and Leek Town, as the Robins took advantage of teams around them being in FA Trophy action and climbed into the play-offs.

Elsewhere, Lancaster City picked up another big three points away at Morpeth Town, as they continued to make ground on the top five.

The Dolly Blues had to wait until the final 15 minutes to break the deadlock through Aaron Bennett, who continued his fine goalscoring form following his hat-trick last weekend.

An own-goal in added time confirmed the win, lifting Lancaster above their opponents and into eighth.

Finally, Prescot Cables and Hyde United were forced to share the points at Valerie Park, with two first half goals resulting in a 1-1 draw.
