NPL round-up | Saturday 11 January
Only two games survived the frosty weather in the Northern Premier League this weekend, as Macclesfield extended their lead at the top of the division.
The Silkmen ran out 2-0 winners at home to FC United of Manchester, thanks to goals from D’Mani Mellor and Danny Elliot - their 12th and 19th of the season respectively.
Robbie Savage’s side now sit 16 points clear of second-placed Guiseley, whose game at Morpeth Town was one of nine to be postponed due to the weather.
The only other game of the weekend ended in a draw, with nothing separating Basford United and Gainsborough Trinity.
Both goals came in the first half as Lewis Butroid cancelled out McKeal Abdullah’s opener to deny Basford all three points.
Saturday’s point keeps Basford in the bottom four, but does put an end to their seven-game losing run.
