NPL preview | Tuesday 20 August
An early top vs bottom clash headlines matchday four in the Northern Premier League.
Action comes thick and fast for those in the NPL, as sides play their fourth game in 10 days.
The featured match of the round sees an early clash between first and last place, as newly-promoted and unbeaten Stockton Town travel to Morpeth Town, who are still searching for their first points of the season.
Stockton defeated Prescot Cables 3-2 last weekend at home, whilst Morpeth conceded four to Basford last time out. They will be eager to move off of the foot of the table tonight.
The other side yet to pick up points yet this season, Warrington Rylands, travel to Lancaster City.
Rylands have lost each game this season by a one-goal margin, and will hope that last season's near-impeccable away form can carry on and deliver them their first points of the season.
Nearer the top of the table, Macclesfield will be looking to continue their 100% winning start under new manager Robbie Savage as they travel to Ilkeston Town.
Ilkeston picked up four points on their travels last week, and plan to remain unbeaten by grabbing their first win at the New Manor Ground this season.
The only other side with maximum points, Hebburn Town, host Gainsborough Trinity.
The newly-promoted side are yet to concede a goal this campaign, after picking up clean sheets against Warrington Rylands, Blyth Spartans and Mickleover.
Workington travel to Prescot Cables as both sides look to notch one in the win column for the first time this season.
Elsewhere, fourth-placed Hyde United will aim to build on their 4-1 away win at Matlock last Saturday as they face a Basford United side who also scored four at the weekend.
Ashton United will look to make it three wins from four when they host Bamber Bridge.
Guiseley have lost their last two away games 3-1 against early pace-setters Stockton Town and Macclesfield. They return to Nethermoor to take on a Blyth Spartans side still searching for their first win since returning to the NPL.
Meanwhile, Whitby Town picked up maximum points on the road in the last two games. They’ll look to do the same at home as they welcome FC United of Manchester to the Towbar Express Stadium.
Finally, last season's play-off semi-finalists Worksop Town take on Matlock Town.
