November cup success for Ferriby
North Ferriby United update, by Richard Watts.
November was a good month in the FA Trophy for NFU, seeing them progress to the first round proper for the first time in their history.
The month started with an Alex Davidson hatrick ensuring a 3-0 win in the Second round of the competition against Salford City. In the Third qualifying round NFU were drawn away to Blue Square North Side Corby Town.
After drawing 1-1 at Steel Park, the Villagers won the replay 3-2. Alex Davidson again on the score sheet to make it 1-0, Wayne Brooksby made it 2-0 before Corby pulled back to level terms. Russell Fry’s 87th minute strike from the edge of the penalty area gave NFU a 3-2 win.
On the whole it was a good Cup month for NFU as by beating Whitby they progressed in the Doodson Sport Cup. They did suffer a reverse when they were surprisingly beaten 2-1 by Hessle Rangers in the East Riding Cup ending their attempt to win the competition for the fifth successive year.
Cup ties restricted NFU’s league outings in the month but their improved form under Billy Heath continued with a 2-0 home win against Marine.
