Nantwich Town tie down versatile defender to new deal

Nantwich Town right-back Joel Connolly has signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Connolly first joined the club from Prescot Cables in March last year and has gone on to feature 26 times for the Dabbers.

Of those matches, 20 have come during the current season, with the young defender also showing his versatility by operating in midfield on occasion.

An unlucky injury saw him miss two months of the current campaign, but he made his return to action on December 16 and has featured five more times since.

He has also recently worn the captain's armband for the club, further demonstrating his importance to the Pitching In NPL West Division side.

On the new deal, manager Paul Carden said: “We certainly missed Joel when he got injured. He’s the type of player that managers love because he’s so committed you can play him anywhere, and he’d be equally as committed.

"He’s versatile, he trains well and trains the way that he plays.

"He has high standards in terms of his fitness and dedication and he’s a good young player who, if everything keeps going well, is destined for higher levels.

"We’re delighted he’s signed a deal because he’s certainly an asset for the club.”
