Mickleover swoop for former Barnsley youngster

The 20-year-old defender came through the youth system at Barnsley, making his professional debut with the Tykes in a 3-0 defeat to Lincoln City in the EFL Trophy back in 2022.

In February 2023, Benson joined then-National League North side Bradford Park Avenue on a one-month youth loan, before returning in October on a longer loan deal, featuring twice for the club. 

Upon his release from Barnsley at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, Benson made the move to Matlock Town, making five appearances for the Gladiators.

The youngster will now join Mickleover, who have made a strong start to life back in the Northern Premier League this season. 

He will go straight into contention to make his debut in their trip to Bamber Bridge on Saturday.
