Matlock Town part ways with manager Nicky Law
Matlock Town have confirmed that manager Nicky Law has left the club by mutual consent.
This comes after a difficult start to the season, which has seen the Gladiators bottom of the NPL’s top division with two points in the opening six games.
Law’s final game saw his side held at Southern Premier Division Central side Spalding United in the FA Cup first qualifying round.
The 62-year-old arrived at the club following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, in which Matlock finished 15th.
Despite the season still in its infancy, chairman Martin Harrison has decided that a change in the dugout is needed.
He said: “As people are aware, Matlock Town is a community-focussed club, we don’t make decisions lightly and as an executive have been supporting the manager to bring in a brand new team that could start the 2024/25 season and then develop it to be competitive.
“It is sad that things have not worked out with Nicky at the club but we wish him well for the future.
“We are now focussed on bringing in a new management team.”
Assistant manager Martin Foster has also left the club, with the U21s coach James Holmes and club captain Shaun Brisley taking charge for the FA Cup replay with Spalding United on September 3.
Matlock will be searching for a new manager ahead of their league game away at Mickleover on September 7.
