Matlock secure striker from National League North
Matlock Town have confirmed the arrival of Montel Gibson from National League North side Hereford FC for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old arrives with football league experience, having made 24 appearances in League Two for Notts County, where he started his career, and most recently for Grimsby Town under legendary manager Ian Holloway during the 2020/21 season.
More recently, Gibson played for AFC Telford United in the Southern Premier League Central Division.
He netted 24 times in two seasons at the SEAH Stadium, including 16 last season as he helped his side make the play-off final.
He moved to Hereford at the beginning of this season, where he scored on his debut in a 3-0 win over South Shields.
Overall, he scored twice in seven National League North appearances.
According to a statement made by his former side, Gibson is "unable to commit fully” to Hereford, with new work commitments cited as the primary reason for his departure.
He arrives at a Matlock side looking for an upturn in goalscoring form.
The Gladiators currently sit bottom of the Northern Premier League, having netted just three goals in the opening seven games.
Matlock will be eager to involve their new striker as soon as possible, with their next game coming on September 10 against Gainsborough Trinity.
