Macclesfield star secures National League move

Prolific Macclesfield forward James Berry has joined National League side Chesterfield, subject to FA approval.

The 22-year-old, who started out at Hull City, has signed a three-year deal with the Spireites.

A former Wigan Athletic scholar, Berry scored 26 goals in 35 appearances for Macclesfield last season as they were crowned champions of the Pitching In NPL West Division.

Discussing his Silkmen departure, Berry said: "After two amazing here at this club, it's time to move on.

"I can't thank Macclesfield enough for how they resurrected my football career.

"As you know, I really wanted to quit football but now I'm in this position to take my career to the next level.

"I leave with nothing but amazing memories, both on and off the pitch."

The club have already confirmed a replacement for Berry, with Warrington Town forward Luke Duffy joining for a club-record transfer fee.

Duffy started and scored for his former club on the opening weekend of the National League North season.
