Lancaster secure prolific striker

Lancaster City have confirmed the signing of striker Dom Lawson from Thornton Cleveleys.

Lawson, 25, joins the Dolly Blues following an impressive season with West Lancashire League side Thornton Cleveleys, scoring almost a goal-per-game which helped his side claim the league title.

The striker has featured in Lancaster's pre-season as a trialist, scoring 3 goals, including a brace against Skelmersdale.

Lawson is the club's seventh signing of the summer period, and manager Mark Fell is excited to see how his new striker bolsters his teams attacking options.

"He’s got great attributes, his movement is excellent and we think we can further develop him to be a really top striker in this league," he said.

"He’s hungry to progress and knows where the net is, simple as that, compare him to Brad Carsley who had a similar [West Lancashire league] goal record, he made the step up and I think Dom will.

"He gives us a point of difference from our other forwards and fits into our group."

Speaking on his move, Lawson said, "At first, I was a bit nervous, obviously a bit apprehensive with it being four leagues up, but now I’m involved and getting to know everyone I’m just really enjoying it and I can’t wait for the season to start because I think there are good things that can come from this.

"There’s obviously a really good squad and hopefully me joining makes it stronger so we can push on to where we need to be.

"It feels like a close-knit group here and when it’s like that, where everyone gets on and has got each other’s back, you can achieve anything, can’t you."
