Kelvin Davis reveals what builds success as Hednesford Town draw level at the top

Hednesford Town manager Kelvin Davis has stressed the importance of keeping another clean sheet, as the Pitmen drew level with top spot after their 2-0 win over Guiseley.

Montel Gibson and Akheem Rose gave Hednesford a healthy two-goal lead at the break, and they held out in the second half to secure their third win in a row.

While Davis would have liked his side to go on and push for more goals, he was pleased with how they managed the second half and preserved a 15th clean sheet of the season.

“The game changed at half-time, and we fatigued a little quicker than expected, so the game became one where we had to protect the lead,” Davis said post-match.

“The clean sheet is what’s important. We’re in a really good place where we’re together, the group are enjoying their football, and these clean sheets build success.

“So, there are lots of positives to take. Did the game go exactly how we wanted? Probably not. But I'm very pleased with the result.”

With Hebburn Town dropping points, just goal difference is stopping the Pitmen from a return to the NPL Premier Division summit.

However, they do have a game in hand, in which they’ll leapfrog the Hornets if they can take anything from it.

With just seven games remaining, Davis’ men are beginning to hit their stride, and he believes that this momentum, especially at home, could be the deciding factor which pushes them over the line.

“We’re starting to build momentum, and I’m pleased that we were able to put that performance on at home, where you want to win your games,” he said.

“It’s about keeping up this momentum now, and the fans are a big part of that.”
