Joe Ackroyd returns to Guiseley

Guiseley have confirmed the signing of midfielder Joe Ackroyd from League 1 side Barnsley.

The 21-year-old made 13 loan appearances for the Lions in the first half of the 22/23 season, scoring four goals.

Ackroyd made four senior appearances for the Tykes in the ten years he was at the club, three coming in the EFL Trophy and the other in the FA Cup.

He spent the second half of the last two seasons at National League North side Buxton, making 38 combined appearances, and scoring three times.

Other loan spells include MFK Vyskov in the Czech Republic, where he made 13 appearances in the Czech National Football League.

On his return to Nethermoor, Ackroyd said: “I have always felt wanted at Guiseley. The progression the club is making makes me feel that I want to be a part of it going forward.”

Ackroyd will be available immediately for pre-season games, and admits he’s “looking forward to getting stuck in” to the game against his former side on July 30.
