Ilkeston Town midfielder receives international call-up
Ilkeston Town midfielder Ben Starkie has been called up for the Tanzania national team.
Starkie, 21, was selected in the Taifa Stars' squad for the recent AFCON 2023 tournament but was an unused substitute in their three outings in the Ivory Coast.
The young midfielder did feature up-front in Tanzania's preliminary friendly before the tournament, facing off against Liverpool's Mohamed Salah as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Egypt.
He will travel with the squad to Baku, Azerbaijan, as they prepare to face Bulgaria on Friday 22 March and Mongolia on Monday 25 March.
At club level, he has featured 20 times for Ilkeston Town, where he is on dual-registration from National League North side Alfreton Town.
He has scored on two occasions for the Robins who currently sit in 13th place in the Northern Premier League.
