Highly-rated winger bolsters FC United ranks

FC United of Manchester have strengthened their forward line with the signing of talented Bury winger Lewis Gilboy.

Gilboy first joined the Shakers in August 2020 after being released by Accrington Stanley, with whom he signed his first professional contract.

He was no stranger to non-league football when he signed, having featured 10 times for City of Liverpool before the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.

The 24-year-old went on to make well over a century of appearances for Bury and had the most goal contributions of any player at the club last season, scoring 22 and assisting a further 10.

Taking to social media following his departure from Gigg Lane, Gilboy said: "What a three years it’s been. Over 130 appearances with a lot of ups and downs, but enjoyed every single moment.

"My time has come to take on a new challenge. Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the journey, I wish you all the best."

He becomes FC United's second new signing of recent times, with Trevon Bryan also joining the club and scoring on his debut at Bradford Park Avenue last weekend.

The pair could feature for the first time at Broadhurst Park on Saturday when Stalybridge Celtic visit for a friendly.
