Hebburn midfielder makes Dunston move

Dunston have completed the permanent signing of Tom Devitt from Hebburn Town.

Devitt, 28, joined the Fed on a one-month loan deal in October, going on to make six appearances.

Dunston have remained unbeaten since his arrival, picking up 11 points which has seen them rise to sixth in the NPL East Division table.

The former Gateshead, Stranraer and Blyth Spartans centre-half has now penned a deal which will keep him at the UTS Stadium until the end of the 2025/26 season.

On signing for Dunston, Devitt said: "I've really enjoyed it. The lads have been top class and so have the coaching staff, Jon in particular.

"We're on a decent run of form as well, so it is just a case of keeping that going and hopefully continuing what we have started and pushing towards the top of the table.

"You can tell it's a really close-knit group here, from the committee, to the fans, to the players.

"It seems like a really friendly, well-run club, so it's been seamless. I knew a few of the lads already so that always helps, but it's been brilliant and the lads have been top class.

"It's no secret that we want to be at the top end of the table. Hopefully, that's what can happen.

"As a collective, the play-offs have to be the least of our expectations, if not challenging for the top spot. With the squad that we have got here, there is no reason why we can't do that.”

Dunston manager Jon McDonald said: "Tom has done very well since he arrived on loan. His performances have been good and he has integrated seamlessly into our group.

"When we knew there may be an opportunity to secure him on a permanent basis, we didn't hesitate.

"At 28 years old, he is at a good age and also has experience of winning this league only last season. I am grateful to Bobby Moore and Hebburn for their assistance with the deal.”
