Guiseley announce return of fan favourite midfielder

Guiseley have confirmed the signing of Lebrun Mbeka from National League North side Spennymoor Town.

The 27-year-old midfielder returns to the Lions for his third spell after initially joining the club in 2021.

Mbeka went on to make 86 appearances for Guiseley and scored eight goals, with his performances catching the attention of clubs at Step 2.

The DR Congo-born star then secured a move to Boston United a year later, before returning to the West Yorkshire outfit on loan at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

In January 2023, he once again moved back to the National League North, this time with Spennymoor Town, and spent two seasons with the Moors before announcing his departure in May 2024.

On his return to Guiseley, Mbeka said: "I am coming home, back to where I belong.

"Once Sporting Director Russ O’Neill outlined what the club’s ambitions were for the upcoming season I could not wait to join.

"I clearly believe that Guiseley should not just be aiming to get back to National North but also to the National League, that is where they belong.

"I cannot wait for it to start. I like to work hard and be professional. I am very pleased to be coming back to Guiseley."

Lions manager Mark Bower added: "Lebrun is a player proven at a higher level and we have done well to bring him back to the club.

"He is a top, top player who can play either in midfield or in defence.

"He wants to get us to the levels that he has been playing at over the last few seasons.

"He is really popular with our supporters so it won’t take him long to settle back in."
