Grantham feeling defiant following relegation

Grantham Town boss Matt Chatfield insists his side are capable of going all-out for top spot this season after being relegated from the Pitching In Northern Premier League.

The Gingerbreads finished bottom of the division, winning just eight of their 42 league matches as they suffered relegation alongside Witton Albion.

Grantham will now play their football in the NPL East Division in 2022/23.

The club recently confirmed the signings of winger Danny Cocks and defender Charlie Jemson as they prepare to return to pre-season friendly action against Lincolnshire-based Blackstones on Saturday 9 July.

Speaking after the squad reported for pre-season training, Gingerbreads boss Matt Chatfield said: “Over the past few years we’ve witnessed disappointment after disappointment.

“I hope people saw what we did last season in the last few games, and the positive energy that we’re going to bring, the high tempo.

“With the players that we’ve recruited, we’re not here to really challenge for that top spot.

“There are some good teams in this division, and we’re not taking anything for granted, but I’m telling you now; this team will be ready for anything this season.”
