Goalkeeper scores in crazy ending at Morpeth
Saturday’s game between Morpeth Town and Warrington Rylands may not have had anything riding on it, but it proved to be a game for the ages.
Rylands were 3-0 up at the break, thanks to goals from Mo Touray, Scott Duxbury and Colin Oppong. Connor Thompson then pulled one back on the hour for the Highwaymen.
Heading into stoppage time, it remained 3-1. Josh King then pulled a second goal back for Morpeth, in what seemed to just be a consolation goal.
But they kept pushing, and forced a free-kick on the edge of the box. Liam Noble played it along the floor, and goalkeeper Dan Lowson scored to send players, fans and everybody associated with the Highwaymen into delirium.
Morpeth finished the season in 17th, three points above the drop zone, while Rylands finished in 10th, eight points off the play-off places.
