Gateshead duo join Morpeth Town
Morpeth Town have bolstered their squad with the capture of Connor Pani and Ryan Wombwell on season-long loan deals from Gateshead.
The hugely talented young duo have joined the Highwaymen ahead of the new campaign and will go straight into contention for their trip to Warrington Town on Saturday 13 August.
Pani was much sought-after this summer, but he opted for the Highwaymen as he continues to seek gain time to aid his development.
Meanwhile, Wombell will be well-known to Morpeth supporters, having impressed on loan at the club last season.
On the double capture, Highwaymen boss Craig Lynch said: “We are delighted to get Ryan and Connor signed. Obviously we had Ryan with us at the end of last season and he was a breath of fresh air.
"He came in, played multiple positions, never complained, and was very good. So to get him back we must have done something right!
“Connor is also a great signing for us. I know he is highly thought of at Gateshead and I’m really looking forward to seeing them both play for us this season.
“It’s great to add some enthusiastic, talented young lads to the squad. I feel as if we have a good blend of experience and youth this season and I’m looking forward to the start of the season.”
On his return to Craik Park, Wombwell said: “I came here last year for a couple of months and I really enjoyed it.
“I thought I did well and it benefitted me as a player so when I knew there was a chance to come back, I just wanted to get it done.
“This year we’ve got a good team so winning as many games as we can will hopefully get us up the end of the table.”
“Me and the gaffers at Gateshead spoke about game time and opportunities and getting on the pitch," Pani added.
“I found out about Morpeth and how positively the team is getting on at the moment. I got the chance to come here - now I need to prove myself and get the minutes I wanted at Gateshead.
“I need to prove my point now so I can get in the starting XI.”
