Gainsborough make loan move for Doncaster forward

Gainsborough Trinity have signed young Doncaster Rovers striker Jack Goodman on a season-long loan.

The teenager signed his first professional deal with the League Two side earlier this summer but will now link up with the Holy Blues to gain further experience in a non-league environment.

He made seven appearances for Rovers' first team during the 2022/23 season, having made the step up from youth level after scoring 20 goals for their U18s side.

Holy Blues manager Neal Bishop said: "He is someone we had with us last pre-season and were going to take on loan from Doncaster then, but for one reason or other, it didn't happen.

"He's one we have kept our eye on, and Doncaster have been good enough to entrust us with him.

"He is a good lad, he'll add competition to the forward places, has a very good eye for goal and he's a very good signing who we are delighted to get on board."

Ahead of their season-opener at home to Marine on August 12, the club have also moved to bring in versatile former Huddersfield Town academy prospect Adam Porritt.

Porritt, who has previously spent time for a number of Yorkshire-based clubs including Harrogate Town, Farsley Celtic and Ossett United, spent six months training with the Holy Blues squad last season as part of his recovery from a serious ACL injury.

The 25-year-old was previously part of the Liversedge side that secured promotion to the Northern Premier League in 2021/22.

"Adam is again someone who trained with us last season, probably wasn't as match fit as we would have liked, but very good technically," Bishop added.

"I think he'll fit into the way we want to play perfectly.

"Although he's not that old, he does come with experience, he'll be a voice in the dressing room and he is just the type of character that we want."
