Fleetwood Town defender joins Macclesfield

Macclesfield have signed young Fleetwood Town defender Kayden Hughes on loan until the end of the season.

Hughes, 18, joined the League One side over seven years ago at U12s level, and has gone on to progress through their academy.

The defender was announced as captain of the club's U18s back in August 2023 and has since gone on to feature regularly, as well as playing numerous times for their U21s during their Professional Development League campaign.

The teenager was rewarded with his first professional contract in October, running until the summer of 2025.

A loan switch to the Leasing.com Stadium marks Hughes' first move into men's football, and he will feature alongside former Fleetwood team-mate Drew Baker at the Northern Premier League side.

Macclesfield are currently vying for promotion and have also reached the semi-finals of the FA Trophy, where they will visit National League high-flyers Gateshead next Saturday.
