Familiar face returns to Belper Town

Belper Town have announced the signing of former Matlock Town striker Karl Demidh for a second time.

The well-travelled Demidh is no stranger to the Nailers, having first joined the club in November 2021.

He has played for a number of non-league clubs around the East Midlands, the most recent of which was Northern Premier League side Matlock.

Having arrived from Quorn, Demidh scored 12 goals in 39 appearances during a year-long stint with the Gladiators, but his time at the club has recently been hampered by injury and illness.

Discussing the reasons behind the departure of the 32-year-old, Matlock boss Martin Carruthers said: “He was fantastic for us in our push for the play-offs last season, but this year it’s been a stop-start campaign for him with injury and not being well, which meant he couldn’t command a regular start.

"This was obviously frustrating for him - he wanted starts. We part on good terms and wish him well for the future.”

Demidh will link up with a Belper side fighting for a return to the Northern Premier League at the first attempt following their relegation from the NPL Premier Division at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Ahead of Saturday's trip to Dunston, they currently sit fourth in the division, two points adrift of second-placed Hebburn Town and eight behind leaders Stockton Town.
