Stafford-Long Eaton FA Trophy match to be replayed

The FA Trophy preliminary round tie between Stafford Rangers and Long Eaton United is set to be replayed after Stafford inadvertently fielded an ineligible player.

The original tie finished 2-1 to Rangers, but the two are set to go again on September 4 at Grange Park.

A statement from Stafford Rangers said: “In coming to this decision, the FA have accepted that we received all the relevant permissions from the player’s current club, but the wording of the permissions filed with the FA did not comply with the rules of the competition.

"The FA have also accepted that neither Stafford Rangers nor any of its officers knew, or could reasonably have known, even if they made every reasonable enquiry, that the player was ineligible to play.”

The winner of the replayed tie will travel to NPL Midlands Division side Walsall Wood in the next round on September 7.
